This new 6000 square metre library in Brighton has a low energy design due to the use of thermal storage Termodeck and a wind-assisted displacement ventilation system. Flow Analysis were commissioned to use CFD to verify the design. As a first stage, a separate external air flow simulation was conducted around the building itself and some of the surrounding buildings (see Figure to the left). This was necessary in order to establish the wind-induced pressure coefficients on the openings. |
|
Several internal simulations were then carried out to model different scenarios of, for example, wind, no wind and various natural ventilation openings being open or closed. Each scenario could be quickly analysed, once the initial model had been created. The results of the simulations confirmed that the low energy design would work efficiently under a variety of external conditions and planned usage.
